American Women Veterans

American Women Veterans is the nation’s leading non-partisan 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the legacy of servicewomen, veterans, and their families. We welcome veterans and supporters from all eras and branches of service.

Our Mission

We advocate for and empower women veterans through:

  • Advocacy & Policy – Engaging in legislative efforts and policy changes to enhance access to VA healthcare, mental health services, and compensation for military sexual trauma (MST).
  • Health & Wellness – Raising awareness of VA healthcare benefits for women, including women’s health clinics, pregnancy care (excluding abortion), gynecological services, and MST recovery programs.
  • Housing & Financial Stability – Providing information on veteran-specific housing assistance, homeless prevention programs, and financial grants.
  • Career & Business Support – Supporting women veteran entrepreneurs with business mentorship, networking, access to capital, and small business grants.

1. Health & Wellness

  • VA Women’s Health Clinics – Many VA hospitals offer specialized women’s clinics with gynecological care, primary care, mental health services, maternity and pregnancy support, and postnatal care.

  • Military Sexual Trauma (MST) Claims & Support – Free, confidential counseling, treatment, and compensation assistance for survivors of military sexual trauma.

  • Pregnancy & Postnatal Care – The VA provides maternity care coordination, prenatal care, lactation support, and childbirth education.

  • Veterans Crisis Line – Free, 24/7 mental health support for veterans in distress.

  • HUD-VASH (VA Supportive Housing) – Provides rental assistance and case management for homeless and at-risk veterans.
